Biggest metro subway train accident in Washington history

2 subway trains collide with each other killing at least 9 people. The accident happened mondayevening (5 p.m.) in the area of the Fort Totten subwaystation at the border of Washington and Maryland. John Catoe (director of the subwaynetwork) says: one of the subway trains rear-ended the other subway train, whom was standing still.

The driver of the rear train was one of the people who were killed in the accident. Another person said: “one car of the train was completely squeezed on top of the other”. You can view footage of the crash-site on the CNN website. (footage).

Jodie Wickett,  a nurse who was on the subway train said the following: I was sending an text-message when I feld a major shock. 5 seconds later the train was standing still and everybody flew in the air. I went trough a couple of wagons trying to help everyone I could. I took the ambulance 10 minutes to be at the scene.

76 passengers were treated for injuries, 3 are still in critical conditions.
