Former Belgian politician Karel van Miert died Monday (22/06/2009) after having a heart attack while picking cherries out of a tree. Minister van Miert was a very respected man in Belgium and an important man in the Socialist party of which he was a member.He was a member of the European Parliament for years and from 1989 until 1994 he even was European secretary. People called him “The gardiner of Europe” because when he wasn’t doing politics you could always find him in his garden.
Former Minister of State Karel van Miert will be burried Saturday (27/06/2009) in intimate circle. Our condolences go out to his lifetime partner Carla Galle and his family.
