Green Street Hooligans in real life (West-Ham – Millwall) on 25-08-2009

I think every soccerfan knows the movie Green Street Hooligans. Great movie with Elijah Wood as main character.

The movie shows the West-Ham clan and the Millwall clan and their hate with eachother. If you are a soccerfan and you have never seen this movie, you should.

On 25-08-2009 West-Ham played Millwall for the Carling Cup. Well… No it all happened in real life. The supporterclans got in a fight with eachother and some of them stormed on to the pitch as you can see in the video below:

There were already major problems before the match, about 1.000 policemen tried to intervene with the fighting between the supporters on there way to the stadium. Just before the match began, it was even worse. Supporters began pushing eachother and trew stones and bottles. It escalated when West Ham took the lead in extra time. That was the signal for about sixty supporters to run on the pitch. After a while, the policemen and stewards got everyone back in there saits, but after the final wishle it escalated into a major battlefield.

The English Football Association is currently working with officials of both clubs to find the instigators of these huge riots. I quote: “We condemn such violence that occurred yesterday evening in and out of  Upton Park”. If we identify supporters that where not doing what they are suppost to do, they will get a life long ban…

By the way, West-Ham won the game 3-1 after Millwall took the lead for 87 minutes (0-1)… but after a goal in the 87 minute, scored by J. Stanislas and another goal by J. Stanislas and one by  Z. Hines in extra time, West-Ham won the game and goes through to the next round.
