Susan Boyle lost to Diversity

The group beat the 48-year-old worldwide phenomenon who came in second place despite getting over 285million views on YouTube. Giving the crowd a last wiggle of her hips, gracious Susan told Ant and Dec: “The best people won. “They were very entertaining, I wish them all the best.” Watch Diversity’s performance below – and more clips from the show above right. The dance group were so stunned by their victory they were speechless.

Eventually they pulled it together enough to thank everyone who voted, but repeated: “We’re lost for words.” Saxophone player Julian Smith came third position. He told show hosts Ant and Dec: “It’s been an honour.”  Ant and Dec later told Britain’s Got More Talent host Stephen Mulhern they were stunned by the shock result.

North London dance act Flawless opened the talent extravaganza with a head-spinning, break-dancing routine to a medley of hits including Wanna Be Startin’ Something, Smooth Criminal, I Feel Good.

And they get the first standing ovation of the night with Simon Cowell telling them: “Right now we’ve got a competition, that was incredible.”

While Amanda Holden gushed: “That was utter perfection. Tonight’s was the best performance you’ve ever done.”

Chubby-faced schoolboy Shaheen Jafargholi, 12, was up next singing Who’s Lovin’ You in a sharp suit. His performance gave judges Simon and Piers Morgan a chance to talk about whether children should be allowed in the competition. After Hollie Steel broke down in tears on last night’s show, he admitted he’d been re-considering his decision to allow children to enter the national talent contest.

Dance group, and eventual winners, Diversity came up next and caused ructions when Amanda told them they’d performed better than show-openers Flawless.  She said: “I think you’ve blown Flawless out of the water. I do. There is room for you out there. I don’t think there should be any assumptions about who is going to win this show.”

Saxophone player Julian Smith was up next playing Somewhere from West Side Story – much to the approval of Amanda who told him he’s got a brilliant career ahead of him.
